MOTION PICTURE TRAILERS: PART I

Since Wall Street took over the industry, cutting trailers has become less fun and more business. The studios need to sell their picture. The film is a product, not a work of art. Sell, sell, sell. We need more money-shots! Give away every inch of the plot! How many different actors can we fit in a three minute spot! Explosions. Gunfire. Sex! (but not too much!) Buy it up America. This is the last remake you'll be getting for a while! (fingers crossed)

Enough of that nonsense...

Without further adieu, here is the first installment of my favorite motion picture trailers...

"THE SHINING"
For the first trailer of the series, I figured I should pick my absolute favorite of all time. It is eerie, it reveals nothing of the plot. And, to be honest, it's just plain horrifying.

The most stirring image in this entire picture is that of the blood falling from the elevator, so it was an obvious choice for the trailer. I really have no idea what it means or what it's supposed to symbolize, if it is supposed to symbolize anything, but that doesn't matter.

In a day when we get a new Japanese horror remake commercial on the tube every fifteen seconds, it's refreshing to bring this one up and take a look at how it's really done. The best trailer of all time.

...and for laughs, the ingenious reworking....

Now that's a trailer! Thanks for bringing that to my attention, that spooked the hell out of me.

Loved the spoof as well.

I love that original trailer. Easily one of the best ever!

As for the second one....OH MY. If someone had never heard or seen that film and then saw that trailer... they're be in for a nasty surprise!
